Series of sculptures will take pride of place at CB1

Cambridge, February 2013 - Brookgate, the Cambridge-based mixed-use development company, has unveiled the first in a series of public art projects which will act as a gateway to the Station Square - part of the CB1 masterplan.

“Reflective editor” the first major UK public art commission for internationally established sculptor Doug Allsop is a 3.75metre high black granite sculpture with a highly polished surface to reflect the street scene and frame the view both to and from the station.

Two further pieces of art work have been commissioned for CB1.  A large sculptural bench by Wales and Wales, and a series of stone carvings by local artist Tom Perkins will be located in the new small pocket park alongside the Microsoft Building. Both works were commissioned by Cambridge based Ridgeons to commemorate their 100th anniversary.

David Wright, Director of Commission Projects said:
“The installing of Doug Allsop’s sculpture marks the first of a series of artists projects planned for Station Road linked to its development over the next few years.  They demonstrate Brookgate’s strong commitment to the creation of an exciting, high quality public realm through working with some of the UK’s most acclaimed artists.”
